Downtown Dallas, Inc. Hires New Senior Director of Public Safety Albert Sanchez

Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI) is proud to announce a key addition to our leadership team, former Dallas Police Sergeant Albert Sanchez, continuing our commitment to public safety. In his new role, Sanchez will lead field operations and identify best practices and procedures for our Downtown Safety Patrol and homeless outreach initiatives, as well as interact with all Downtown stakeholders and law enforcement agencies on cooperative field strategies.  Sanchez has started very energetically by evaluating both the Safety Patrol and homeless outreach programs and will lead next month’s roll out of extended hours for the Safety Patrol as well as implement new deployment strategies to meet the needs of our existing and soon-to-be-open Downtown parks.

Albert Sanchez Headshot2019

“I am thrilled and honored to join the DDI team and bring my expertise in Public Safety to Downtown Dallas. I look forward to collaborating with our local law enforcement agencies, security personnel, homeless service providers and citizens who live, work or visit Downtown,” said Sanchez. “Having Albert on our team is a real win for DDI, as it elevates our expertise and focus on our top priority; keeping Downtown a safe and clean place to live, raise kids, go to work and visit,” said DDI President and CEO Kourtny Garrett.  “And with his experience and leadership, both in law enforcement and in the private sector, we are excited to see how his insight will better our organization as a whole.”

Sanchez is a seasoned management professional who graduated from Western Governor’s University and is currently a Texas Wesleyan University MBA Candidate. For the past decade, he worked his way up the ranks of the Dallas Police Department, starting as an officer, then Senior Corporal, then Sergeant. He worked in the Internal Affairs Division and the Public Integrity Unit as a supervisor. In his time, he developed a new internal process that was presented to and approved by the Executive Command Staff, which impacted more than 3,000 officers. Sanchez also has experience with Public Improvement Districts, having managed and reconfigured Uptown Dallas’s public safety program and developed the public safety program for the University Crossing Public Improvement District.

UNBRANDED 2019 Call for Vendors

For the sixth year in a row, Unbranded, an innovative pop-up retail and event concept brought to you by Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI), will return for 2019 in Downtown Dallas. As in years past, Unbranded will provide free retail and event space to a curated group of entrepreneurs, designers, artists, and more.

Applications for unique Unbranded participants are now open. Vendors must apply to participate by September 27 at Space for selected vendors will, as always, be free.

“We can’t wait to host Unbranded again,” said Shalissa Perry, CMO of DDI. “It’s been a thrill to watch vendors graduate from Unbranded participants to full-scale retailers and brands in Dallas and beyond.”

Unbranded 2019 is returning to the historic Dallas Power & Light Building at 1508 Commerce Street, which will soon be home Pegasus City Brewery, Downtown’s first brewery. “DDI partnered with Pegasus City last year for Unbranded and developed a great relationship that budded into successfully recruiting the brewery to look at the space at 1508 Commerce and ultimately signing a lease for their second location. This is just another success story from the Unbranded pop-up concept,” said Perry.

Unbranded was co-founded in 2014 by Bryan DeLuca, co-founder of Foot Cardigan, and Matt Alexander, former founder of Edition Collective, now owner of the wildly popular Neighborhood Goods, as a means to provide free retail and event space to local creators during the holiday shopping season. After a successful first year in Deep Ellum, Unbranded partnered with DDI and has since enjoyed four consecutive years in Downtown.

DDI assumed responsibility for the operation of Unbranded in 2017. Original co-founders Bryan DeLuca and Matt Alexander remain involved in the project, aiding with the selection of vendors.

Unbranded will be open for business Thursdays through Saturdays from December 5 – 21. Each week, there’ll be 10+ participating vendors, in addition to free gift wrapping, wi-fi, coffee, drinks, and more. Beyond its walls, DDI will be running their annual Wanderland programming which will include holiday themed events and “Instagrammable” moments throughout Downtown parks.
