Dallas Mavericks Championship Parade & Celebration

Downtown Dallas, Inc. wants you to help us congratulate the 2011 World Champion Dallas Mavericks this Thursday with a Victory Parade and Celebration as big as Texas, right here in Downtown’s Victory Park! This promises to be a celebration like no other and we want everyone to have a memorable time. Read below for a complete list of schedule of events, road closures, and helpful hints.

WHEN:

Thursday, June 16, 10 a.m.

ROUTE Map

The parade will start at the intersection of Young and Griffin streets and will travel west on Young Street to Houston Street. The parade will turn north (right) on Houston Street to Continental Avenue and proceed west (left) on Continental Avenue to Victory Avenue. The final stretch will take the parade north (right) on Victory Avenue to Olive Street, where it will end at the American Airlines Center.

 

SCHEDULE

Fans may line up on the sidewalks behind the barricades starting at 7 a.m. Street closures will begin at approximately 8 a.m. The parade is expected to end about 11 a.m. The celebration at the American Airlines Center will begin at 12:30 p.m. and run for about an hour.

PARTICIPANTS

The parade will feature Mavs owner Mark Cuban; founding owner Don Carter; president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson; President/CEO Terdema Ussery; coach Rick Carlisle and all of the 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks players, coaches, support staff and their families.

STREET CLOSURES

Roads will begin closing at 8 a.m. Travel will be affected on the following streets:

• North Houston Street at Harry Hines Boulevard. No southbound on Houston.

• Highline Drive at I-35 Stemmons service road. No eastbound on Highline.

• I-35 Stemmons at Highline Drive exit ramp. No exit onto Highline Drive.

• Olive Street at Victory Avenue. No southbound on Victory. No eastbound on Olive.

• Olive at Field Street. No westbound on Field.

• Field at Woodall Rodgers. No northbound on Field.

• Lamar Street and Continental Avenue. No eastbound on Lamar.

• Lamar and Houston Street. No eastbound on Lamar.

• Continental Avenue and I-35 Stemmons service road. No eastbound on Continental.

• Record Street and McKinney Avenue. No northbound on Record.

• Record and Ross Avenue. No eastbound on Ross.

• Market Street and Ross. No northbound on Market.

• Elm Street and Houston. No westbound on Elm.

• Main Street and Market. No westbound on Main.

• Jackson Street and Market. No westbound on Jackson.

• Wood Street and Market. No westbound on Wood.

• Griffin Street and Wood. No southbound on Griffin.

• Akard Street and Young Street. No westbound on Young.

• Canton Street and Griffin. No northbound on Griffin.

• Griffin and Memorial Drive. No northbound on Griffin.

• Lamar and Memorial. No northbound on Memorial.

TRANSPORTATION

City officials are advising attendees to take DART to Downtown. The parade will be accessible from the Convention Center station, Union Station, the West End station and the Victory Plaza station at the American Airlines Center.

• DART Rail will operate a rush hour schedule between 6 and 9 a.m. with trains every 15 minutes.

• DART Rail Red Line trains north of downtown Dallas will operate every 7.5 minutes as scheduled.

• All DART trains will convert to 10 minute service no later than 9 a.m. from end of the line stations. This will continue through the parade and AAC events.

• All Green Line trains will operate with three cars through the event. It connects customers directly with Victory Station and there’s ample parking at North Carrollton/Frankford, Trinity Mills, Bachman, Market Center, Buckner, Lake June and Lawnview stations.

• DART Rail ridership is growing and the lots at Parker Road, Bush Turnpike and Downtown Garland stations have limited vacant space. Consider using Arapaho Center Station if Parker Road and Bush are full or Forest/Jupiter or LBJ/Skillman if Downtown Garland is full.

• The parade route is an easy walk from any of these stations: Akard, West End, Union or Convention Center. Akard and West End serve Red, Blue and Green lines. Union and Convention Center serve the Red and Blue lines.

• Convenient DART bus service is available from the Addison Transit Center (Routes 205 and 183) and Lake Ray Hubbard Park and Ride (Route 283). Midday service is available for post-event trips.

• 60 additional buses will be available at West End Station (25) and Victory Station (35) after the events.

• TRE is adding rail cars where possible to the seven trains arriving at Union Station between 6:38 and 9:26 a.m. Additional trains will be stationed at Union Station for post-event service.

PARKING

City officials are strongly advising attendees to take public transportation, but downtown Dallas has many public paid parking available near and far from the parade route.

WEATHER

It’s expected to be partly cloudy with a high temperature in the upper 90s. Officials advise attendees to come prepared with plenty of water and sunblock.

AFTER PARTY

At the conclusion of the parade, a special season ticketholder-only event will be held inside American Airlines Center. The event will be broadcast outside on the AT&T Plaza HD big-screen TV and streamed on dallasnews.com. City officials say attendance in the outdoor plaza will be limited to about 10,000 people for safety reasons.

RESTROOMS

Portable facilities will be located on Young Street between Griffin and Lamar streets; on Young near Market Street; at the corner of Young and Houston streets; at Houston and Pacific Streets; at Houston underneath Woodall Rodgers; and at Victory Avenue near Continental Ave.
