Main Street Garden news

Downtown Dallas, Inc.  is hiring two part-time people for its Clean Team to be dedicated to Main Street Garden.  One of their primary duties will be to clean up dog waste which is  a real problem when some of our friends and neighbors don’t pick up after their dogs.

They also will try to keep the park litter free.

The new people should be on board in the next 30 days.  One person will be on duty at Main Street Garden from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

Any other suggestions on educating people to pick up after their dogs (that don’t involve deadly weapons) will be welcomed.

  1. Dog waste on streets and in parks is a problem plaguing the best cities around the world. Probably even moreso, b/c there are more residents in those cities. I’m certainly not defending it, but making the point that nobody has really arrived at a good solution. Paris, one of the filthiest for dog waste, ended up just biting the bullet similar to you are doing here, except they now do it city wide after pretty much trying everything else. Laws/fines have never been adequate in enforcing it, perhaps public shaming? Posting pictures on the blog? Nah, that would be too harsh considering the bag dispensers are empty half of the time. Also, I have never actually seen anybody NOT pick up after their dog. The eyes on the street phenomenon works, but it never fails that more appears the next day when no one is watching. I always bring extra bags from the grocery store when I walk.

Thank You So Much!! I liVe Downtown and take my dog to the park at least twice a day, plastic baggy in hand! I don’t see people who don’t clean up after their pets, but I know that some days you can’t walk without nearly stepping in waste. It makes me sad to know these people own pets who can’t clean up after themselves, but are not responsible enogh to clean up for them! Thanks again for this generous gesture!

If you have a dog downtown, please clean up after them. That is common sense. A plastic bag is easy and sure is good for everyone else. Thanks Dustin and the rest of you who do pick up after your pet. Don’t dare try to get on the grass at Thanksgiving Square. That is a lost cause

for the Nasty people who won’t clean up after their dogs………FINE, FINE, FINE…………… Fine them for 1) not carrying a pooper scooper with bag for clean up (which I might add I never see when people are walking their dogs) and 2) FINE, FINE FINE them for not cleaning up their dogs waste. This will ensure our streets and sidewalks stay clean.
